This story has brought back good memories!. Alexandria might as well be my extended neighborhood. Riding the bike trail from the Reagan National airport (Back then just National Airport) to Mt. Vernon. Part of me will always be riding the trail.
very good story
Hello Out There In Or On The World Wide Web To Mr. Dixie After Dark, Sir, I Just Began Watching This Certain Video About Vampires! As I Said Before, I Have Not Watched This Video Clear Through, But IF You Didn't Mention The Little Diddie About The Animals (A British Rocknroll Bands Song About "The House Of The Rising Sun", Which Is A Haunted Tale Of Some Kind Of Creepy Feeling! Can You Tell Us The True Story About That Song, Because That Song Started Around The Early 1830's !?! Thank You For All Of Creepy Stories, Thank You Again!
Thanks!
Thank you so much!! Very much appreciated!
@@DixieAfterDark 💖you rock, and I love your stories!
This gave me goosebumps. What a wonderful story.
That poem is beautiful. Thanks I love it. I'm not too far from that place.
Could you do the wampas cat next
Not sure about next, but I'll move it up the list. You're the second to ask for it now.
@@DixieAfterDark thank you sir the Wanpus is my favorite of every cryptid especially since I know it’s real and I have seen it
It's so interesting that such a remarkable legend has sprung from this woman, yet we know so little about what could've made her life extend beyond the grave
Absolutely
Top notch as always 👌 shared to community. Blessings 🙌 love and light ✨️ 💛
Much appreciated
I mean stop and think about it women didn't have any rights back then so she was running from an abusive father or an unwanted marriage
Because the only one that was with her when she died was the guy that brought her there so he helped her Escape whatever she was running from
Okay my way is seeing it she was running from something she was in a black male black dress whatever and nobody really saw her so she fakes her own death and walks right out the front door because nobody knows what she looks like but the doctor and two women
Hmmm, now that's an interesting theory. I could see that as a possibility, for sure.
@@mollyrosin3695 Haha! I think you mean a black * veil.
As someone who suffers from depression and anxiety, I can tell you it can feel like it lasts for an eternity (fyi; no baggage here; being treated and feeling good). Old Town Alexandria was one of my regular haunts (pun not intended, but serendipitous) when I first moved to Northern Virginia. I probably walked by Gadsby's Tavern hundreds of times and knew nothing about it. I think it's time for a return trip to visit the tavern and the other historic sites there. For those who have not visited Old Town Alexandria, VA, I recommend it highly. It's a lovely place with history, shops, parks and great restaurants. As always, Dixie After Dark knocked this episode out of the park. Full of mystery and melancholy. A great recipe for a ghost story
DNA tests
That would answer a lot of questions.
@@DixieAfterDark but still, it keeps everybody fascinated about what’s going on they keep the story going. In a way when I said that I was like that would be really cool to know, but then everything Will be answered
I grew up here.. beautiful town. Of all the stories I grew up with no one explains why she is in mourning..I thought perhaps she lost a child and fell in depression. Maybe she was elite and there for having a child unwed is why there are so many secrets. It's so sad but the times were sad..I have never seen her ghost.
You have a gift for putting stories like this into a context that make them relatable and much easier for a modern audience to understand. At the same time you treat these stories with a sense of compassion and respect, showing genuine empathy. Thank you for doing what you do
The best telling of this story I have heard. This inn is now on my bucket list. I never accepted the Theodosia Burr theory, they worked too hard to try to make it fit. Maybe you can visit and she will reveal her story to you. And to think of all the strangers buried across this nation who have no mysteries or stories but lie in their graves forgotten by all but God. Thanks once again.
How sad if only we could find her name but I'd have thought impossible now
As always, great work. And as always, the music is FAR too loud. Much louder then your voice in many parts.
I wonder if there's any DNA left...
3:37-3:57 that's a Bible quote, I don't remember where in the King James's it is. But it's definitely from the King James's Holy Bible.
Acts 10:43
There's a mystery. Aaron Burrs daughter disappeared on the schooner, Patriot. I guess they were private folks at the inn.
Great srory. What A beautiful kind of macabre poem
Gate keeping SPIRITS PRE BABYLON SPIRITS THAT GUARDED FORCES OF GATES AS SPIRITS MEANT TO GUARD *WELLS* THAT NEEDED TO HAVE CRIME SCENE TAPE HAHA❤❤❤❤❤
I think it's pronounced Martin-neek
I was at work when this dropped, I legit left work early.
What a sad but intriguing story! So much secrecy…..is that bc the lady was royalty and wanted no one to know? Maybe a married woman running away with her lover? Oh now I want to know more about this stranger! Awesome job! Blessings always! ❤️🙏😊
Very in depth, sad, and Beautiful. Great job like always. I need moreeeee Dixie After Dark. I hope she gets her name back. Mysterious though ,for sure.
Sad and creepy.
Have never seen a UFO but don't discount the existence of them or aliens.
It must take a lot of time to get all your information!👍👍👍
Eh, I enjoy it. I usually spend a good 3 days going through sources.
Excellent as always!❤️❤️❤️👏👏👏
Thank you so much 😀
Your awesome! Great story. I hope you have a wonderful evening 🙏👍
Thank you! You too!
What an awesome story teller you are! Another excellent story. Keep telling stories, we'll keep listening! ❤❤❤
Thank you so much!!
Great video.Thank you.
Glad you liked it!
The island's name is Martinique, and the group of letters after the " t" are pronounced like the word unique so Martinik with stree placed on the second 'i', so Martinik, not Martin-ekee
Cool, thank you.
Great job. Always very interesting and informative ❤🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thank you!
This one truly is a mystery. Maybe someday the mystery will be solved and she can rest in peace.
It's so sad that she died and no one knew who she was one day we shall know
Absolutely
Dear Dixie After Dark, Another great story. Thank you for a wonderful distraction from current events. Have a wonderful, safe week.
Current events have been strange and distracting, for sure. I'm glad you find these stories a good distraction.
Well done. Very nice indeed.
Thank you kindly!
I love your content and narration! Keep up the phenomenal work! I've lived all over the South and Midwest. The South definitely has my heart! We presently live in Richmond Virginia. I can't get enough of the history of this state. Virginia is wonderful. After this video, we are definitely going to visit Gadsby's!
That's awesome! You'll have to let me know if you experience anything.
It would be the greatest honor for this lady to tell me her story. This brought tears to my eyes. A beautiful video. Thanks for sharing this!
Glad you enjoyed it. It was a touching one to me too.
This is interesting. I'm at the part of the video where you talk about the woman always wearing a black veil. Well, the first thing that popped into my heat is an eight (or six) series show on Amazon Prime called, The English, with Emily Blunt and Chaske Spenser. In the story, Blunt plays a woman who is dealing with a disease that ends up disfiguring her face in her later years, and she wore a veil during this time. I won't say what the disease was, but at the time, there wasn't a cure for it (late 1800's). Also, it's a great, though heartbreaking show if anybody is interested in watching it.
Thank you. I'll check it out. I love period pieces like that.
You're welcome! The series came up in my recommendations, so I finally checked it out. I love historical movies/shows, too. Let me know what you think. I loved it.
Smallpox?
@@christinegatto7426 it was syphilis.
My cousins were married there in the early 1990s, it's a beautiful place! Excited to hear your story about such a familiar site!
Awesome!!!
Hell yea!!!
Thanks
I don't know what a ghost might think, but I love your stories 😊
Thank you!!!
Wonder why no one asked her husband her name ?
Great question. If it's at all true, I wonder if the husband wasn't some sort of con man, with the counterfeit money and later being in jail.
The exactness of her age is telling.
Great story but martinaqueeee made me laugh 🤣
😆 I specialize in southern tales. I don't know how I keep managing to come across these French words.
Love love your videos and voice can't wait for each one of your videos ❤❤❤❤
Aw, thank you!!!!
